Dr. Robert L. Martinich has used a Waterlase laser since 2005, and most of the time no local anesthetic (“shots”) is necessary. In fact, Dr. Martinich rarely has needed to administer local anesthetic for children’s dentistry. We use a laser so that we can make your dental visit as comfortable and pain-free as possible.
The Waterlase laser is used to prepare teeth for fillings, remove tooth decay, and to save teeth that have been badly broken or cracked. Typically, there is no need to numb the area because there is little to no pain involved.
Because teeth contain a small amount of water, the Waterlase laser can utilize energized water to cut through the tooth. There is no need for heat during the procedure, which is why there is so little pain associated with the use of Waterlase technology.
The Waterlase laser can also be used for:
• Cosmetic gum recontouring
• Soft tissue procedures
• Relief of painful canker sores
• Periodontal gum disease treatment
